Slide, Spin, and Loop Your Way Into Reining and Roping
You don't have to have a seasoned reining or roping horse to learn the basics--and have fun doing it. Our Intro to Reining and Intro to Roping clinic is designed to welcome newcomers into these disciplines and give them a taste of why so many cowboys and cowgirls get hooked! (Riders with previous experience are also welcome and will be schooled on higher-level exercises.) Best of all, the foundation of each session is on clear horse/rider communication, proper position, and keeping your horse in front of your leg... skills that will serve you well every time you slip your foot into the stirrup.
Choose the focus area that best aligns with your goals, and leave inspired, empowered, and with a clear understanding of how to extend the benefits of this training over the long-run.
Session sizes are limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one attention from Jess.
>>> OPTION A: Intro to Reining (Sat. and Sun. 9 am-12 pm)
Sliding stops. Spins. Flying changes. Intimidating right? Well, not anymore! This introductory clinic is for folks who have always wanted to try reining maneuvers--and for folks who want to brush up their existing skills and take them to the next level. This session is also the perfect addition to any Reined Cow Horse rider's toolbox.
Jess will explain the basics of the sport, break down the key elements of a reining pattern, and walk you step-by-step through how to train your horse to execute each component with proper form. Plus, you'll get to put your new (or improved) skills into practice on the second day with a fun and stress-free "fix-a-pattern" capstone exercise!
>>> OPTION B: Intro to Roping (Sat. and Sun. 2-5 pm)*
Dally. Fair catch. Honda. What's it all mean? This introductory clinic is the perfect fit for folks who want to throw a rope for the first time--or improve their existing roping skills. (New ropers are encouraged to purchase and watch "There's Roping to Do" DVD from Joe Wolter prior to the clinic.)
Jess will walk you through the basics of roping, including how to hold and throw a rope from the ground, "catch" a dummy cow, desensitize your horse to ropes, position yourself as a heeler/header, and why roping is used in the real world. Plus, if you'd like, you'll get to try your hand at roping live cattle on the second day!
*NO prior roping or cow experience needed (for horse or rider). Cows are provided by Jess Holloway and humanely cared for--and not overworked. Safety is a top priority when roping with horses and cows, and helmets are encouraged.
