- IMPORTANT: This clinic is based on Reined Cow Horse competitions, whether you want to show in the local RMBA horse shows or NRCHA shows. Both combine a reining pattern and boxing, box drive and/or fencing a cow.
- Reined Cow Horse is one of the fastest-growing disciplines, and it's no wonder why. This sport focuses on developing truly well-rounded horses. Three events in one discipline to make both horse and rider versatile. The reining, a pattern that horse and rider complete that consists of various maneuvers such as the spin, stops, circles and lead changes. Cow work, in which horse and rider maneuver one cow in the arena, either in a boxing, box drive or fencing class. Heard work, the event that consists of a heard of cows and the objective is to “cut” a cow out of the heard and work to keep it separated.
- Even if you've never tried Working Cow Horse Competitions before, this fun session is for you. Jess will break down a typical pattern, work with you on each dry work (i.e. no cattle) activity, and ensure your horse is a willing and dependable partner in all situations.
- Improving the quality of your horse's gaits, mastering speed variations within gaits, accuracy, and reining maneuvers like spins, stops, and circles will set you up for success.
- When it's time to work cattle, Jess will adjust to each rider's skill and comfort level to help you and your horse be comfortable and proficient controlling a cow.
- At the end of the clinic, you'll have the chance to perform a full pattern (dry work + cow work) to see how far you've come!
- NO prior cow working experience needed (for horse or rider). Riders with previous cow working experience are also welcome and will be coached on higher-level maneuvers.
- Cows are provided by Jess Holloway and humanely cared for and not overworked.
