What's Happening This Weekend
These clinics are geared towards those interested in building skills for working cow horse exercises and competitions. Choose the focus area that best aligns with your goals, and leave inspired, empowered, and with a clear understanding of how to extend the benefits of this training over the long-run.
Session sizes are limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one attention from Jess.
>>> OPTION A: Reining (Sat. and Sun. 9 am-12 pm)
- Looking for an introduction to reining or an opportunity to improve your cow horse reining patterns? This clinic is for you!
- Jess will guide the group through proven exercises that make reining maneuvers more achievable, such as suppling and lateral work.
- For newcomers to the sport, we'll focus on the basics of reining patterns, specifically spending our time on things like gait quality, changes of direction, circles, and clean transitions. You'll also be introduced to a concept called "fencing" that is the building block of your future sliding stop.
- For those with more experience, we'll focus on the full suite of maneuvers, including turnarounds, sliding stops, and lead changes that help you achieve a "plus one" performance.
- Best of all, the foundation of this clinic is clear horse/rider communication, proper position, and keeping your horse in front of your leg... skills that will serve you well every time you slip your foot into the stirrup.
- At the end of the clinic, you'll have the chance to perform a full pattern to see how far you've come!
>>> OPTION B: Cutting (Sat. and Sun. 1 pm-5 pm)
- Looking for a fun environment to practice reined cow horse style cutting? Newcomers and seasoned cutters, alike, are welcome at this educational clinic.
- Jess will teach the basics of cutting, including how to select the best cow from the herd, drive it out, and keep it out. You'll also practice exercises to improve the quality and responsiveness of your horse.
- You'll leave with an understanding of exactly where and how to position your horse for success and an improvement of your horse's speed and accuracy, as well as ability to "read the cow." You'll also get to practice your turn-back skills as you assist fellow riders.
- This is an awesome opportunity for those who want to work with cattle on a ranch, in addition to those interested in working cow horse competitions.
- Cows are provided by Jess Holloway and humanely cared for and not overworked. We'll also use our mechanical cow as a tool in some exercises.
Vaccines: ALL non-boarders send proof of Flu/Rhino (within 6 months) and negative Coggins. Strangles vaccine is highly recommended, but not required unless there's an outbreak. Send paperwork to [email protected] no later than 14 days prior to the clinic date.
