Improve Your Roping Skills & Create a Trustworthy Trail Partner
Choose the focus area that best aligns with your goals, and leave inspired, empowered, and with a clear understanding of how to extend the benefits of this training over the long-run.
Session sizes are limited to ensure plenty of one-on-one attention from Jess.
>>> OPTION A: Roping (Sat. and Sun. 9 am-1 pm)
- This clinic is a great introduction to roping, even if you and your horse have minimal experience. It's also a perfect fit for folks who have worked on basic rope handling and throwing previously -- but want to improve with live cattle practice.
- Jess will coach you on rope handling and throws to gauge each participant's skills. Roping dummies offer a chance to practice without live cows, if you prefer.
- Then we'll practice real-life roping scenarios like sorting and roping from a herd, heading and heeling individual cows, and positioning your horse to hold cows for activities like doctoring.
- Riders with more advanced roping skills will be coached at a higher level and encouraged to practice more complex shots.
*SOME prior cow working experience encouraged (for horse or rider), but you don't need to be an "expert" by any means. Cows are provided by Jess Holloway and humanely cared for and not overworked.
>>> OPTION B: Trail & Road Ready (Sat. and Sun. 2 pm-5 pm)
- Whether you're interested in riding the roads around your property or racking up trail miles with friends, your horse needs to be responsive and calm under all conditions. Our Trail & Road Ready Clinic is designed to produce more trusty equine partners who make your time outside the arena enjoyable--not stressful!
- When most people hear the words "trail horses," they envision a string of sleepy head-to-tail steeds plodding down a level trail. But, a safe and reliable trail horse actually needs a multitude of refined skills and the mindset to remain willing and calm under a variety of conditions and in the face of various obstacles.
- This clinic will help properly prepare your horse to be a trail horse (in the best sense of the words). The right time to hone these skills is before you find yourself out the trail, far from home, facing a difficult situation (e.g. shying, won't trailer load, doesn't cross water).
- Depending on the skill levels and goals of participants, we'll also help your horse overcome fear, use its body effectively on steep terrain, and navigate common trail obstacles like bridges, bogs, and forests. If weather permits, you may also have the opportunity to ride the roads around our facility and cross the nearby Gallatin River to practice your new skills in a real-world trail scenario.
Vaccines: ALL riders need to send proof of Flu/Rhino and negative Coggins. Strangles are not required unless there is a local outbreak. Riders will be informed if such an event occurs.
